So I want to lay out a scenario of an average route of mine vs someone else’s that’s similar. I feel like it takes me too long to finish and I just want some input. I only drive the smaller white vans. So say for example I have 150 stops and someone with the same size van as me has 185. We both leave the pad at say 11:30, and we both get to our first stops around 12:30. Say my stops are about 1-2 mins apart and the other guy is 3-5 apart. And say our route areas that day are similar. I usually get routes that are say half neighborhoods, and half country like areas. Some long dirt/gravel driveways, sometimes businesses off the main roads. Here it is 2 hours later and I’ve only just finished say 30 stops. But the other guy has already done 60. Now I usually don’t at every stop turn off the van, put on the park brake, all that jazz they told us in training. In neighborhoods I usually stop in the road if the driveways are short, otherwise I’ll drive down. Now I always do the speed limit, never go too fast down driveways, I’m a very cautious driver overall. Now I’m not Usain Bolt going from the van to the house and the house to the van. But I try to move quick. I always sort my bags in the van in order, sort the packages in my milk crate, and sort my overflows by stop order. I usually don’t take breaks or stop too much unless I really need to use a bathroom. I just bring snacks with me like everyone else. I just feel like people are always “oh I could finish the route that you have in 4 hours” where as it takes me like 8 1/2. Like how?!? Are you tossing packages out the window? Are you speed racer driving through the neighborhoods? Are you literally running the packages to the house? I just feel like averaging 30 stops in 2 hours is terrible considering how I do my routes.
