Alright so I’ve done both jobs. Here’s my take.
USPS city carrier. You definitely need to be built like a grizzly bear for this job. You’re out in the bad weather walking all your mail and whatever small packages you can stuff in your satchel. You’re in the truck only 5% of the time and it’s just to travel from one walking route to the next or to deliver big packages that were on your talking route. Pay is really damn good. Paying double what Amazon pays with overtime accounted for. You get time and half after 8 hours and double the base rate after 10 hours in one day and they work you to death 6 days a week. You’ll be a beaten down, but extremely rich city carrier.
Amazon. Easy job. The totes method is pretty good. I just spread all the packages on the shelves and boom scan drop drive boom scan drop drive. Then open the next tote repeat. It’s easy. You have heat and AC in the van and are in there like at least half the time. Netradyne and mentor were definitely huge pains in the asses. The EOC policy was also a major bitch. All the driving compliance policies we’re just absolutely crazy. Had to focus more on driving and remembering ignition off seatbelt on don’t look down. Couldn’t even focusing on delivering. Very stressful. Pay is kind of mediocre. You could work extra and make more money but not during a slow season. You could hardly get 40 hours in.
There’s my take.
