When we go on break, our phone says “Don’t worry, we won’t bother you on your break.” Sure enough, I was bothered on my break last Thursday.
I had only taken a break for 12 minutes that day, so I still had 48 minutes of break. I finished at 8:12 on the dot, and knew that if I took my entire break, it would end at 9 on the dot, and I wouldn’t have to do a rescue. 20 minutes into my break, dispatch calls me. This was my first time having dispatch call me on my break, so I figured they were gonna tell me that my car was in idle for too long, or something similar to that.
NOPE!
They called and asked “Hey, how long are you gonna be on break? We need you to do a rescue.” I responded telling them I was “taking my whole break, as I was exhausted.” They half-heartedly said “ok…” and hung up like they were disappointed.
The moral of the story is: Don’t pick up the phone for these mf’s on your break, and don’t let them manipulate you into working when you’re on break. You did your job, don’t feel bad for refusing to do someone else’s!
