Yet Another Example Of Why Base Pay Can Be A Killer

Today’s route: 3.5hrs, 13pkgs. And 172 miles. Vehicle cost for the route (gas, maint., depreciation) was $15.79/hr. So if I had taken base pay of $18/hr for that, I would have netted $2.21/hr. That’s with a 2008 car that gets 24mpg, gas u/so $3.09/gal. if you’re driving a vehicle that’s worth quite a bit more, your depreciation would be a lot more.

Everyone has to make the decision that’s right for them and it’s none of my business how you run yours. Just doing the detailed math many might not in hopes that it might help someone make a more informed decision.
