Mailroom Tips?

I’ve been working as a driver for about two months now and need advice/tips on when it is appropriate to put all the packages, in a apartment building, into a mailroom. I try to use common sense and only do it if the mailroom is locked and equipped with a security camera but apparently that’s not good enough for some customers. The other day I had 12 packages to deliver in an apartment complex that had 4 floors. Of course I was crunched on time and when I saw that shiny mailroom it spoke to me so I dumped all the packages inside. The next day my manager came up to me and told me a customer had complained because her notes said not to deliver to the mailroom but to the front door. I didn’t get written up just a simple coaching. I find it funny how out of all the packages I delivered to that mailroom one customer had a fit about it. She also lied and told my manager I tried getting into her home and messed up her package. She sounded delusional. At the end of the day my manager did not believe anything this crazy lady was saying and only asked that I follow the customer notes next time. Anyways, I see a lot of people on this group talking about putting all packages in a mailroom no matter what the customer says. Don’t you guys get in trouble or have a customer complain? Has anyone been fired over this? Or am I just unlucky? 😣
