Title….sort of.
For the last two years, I have been job search for something in the tech industry. I was a non traditional student graduate from a tech school after having to drop out of college after just not being academically nor financially prepared. Being a student with Asperger’s also didn’t help either. The college I went to pretty much did fuck all for accommodations. With a bit of encouragement from family years later, I went back to college and got my degree in Computer Information Systems.
Before I could graduate thought, Covid hit and I had only had my parents to go to after graduating. I had high aspirations to get a cushy tech job with only 2 year degree. Very early on I started to see just how unrealistic my goals were. So, I bit my lip and took a job as DA. Right away I got the job and as I drove to the station for my first day my first thoughts were “10 bucks I lose this job within a week”.
Over the last two years, I saved up enough to move out of my parents place and as of today I finally landed a remote software engineer job. I am stoked.
Credit to you all as well. When I first subbed to r/AmazonDSPDrivers I had entertainment for days just out of schadenfreude due to all of the rants about bullshit on the job (sorry about that). It’s also been a great place to vent and give tips. Some time ago someone shared how you can fool Mentor so it doesn’t ding if you turn off Motion Tracking and Cell Data if your in a rental. This got me bonuses for 3 straight months and even won me a free Ring Doorbell.
However the day finally came, that I can finally hang up my blue vest for the last time and start my career that I’ve gotten a bit behind on.
Hopefully if there’s any of you looking for something better out there, I’m rooting for you. You could be me and get stuck with this job for 2 years or worse, you could be my mom who after getting her degree in the 80’s found Business Management wasn’t for her and took another 17 years of schooling, job searching and raising my brothers and sister, to find her dream job.
